Steven Seizo Nakamura is a California based artist who specializes in techniques that utilize Red Wine as a medium. He studied fine art and illustration at CSUN and has competed in several Plein Air competitions in Southern California. His first one man show "Colors of Wine" will be featured here at the Castoro Cellars Tasting Room in our gallery throughout the month of February.
In 2009, Steven was enjoying an elegant meal and a glass of fine wine from Paso Robles with his wife, on their Lake Forest balcony. Steven, a Trader Joe's wine specialist, began describing this wine as "dark and inky." His wife Chris, asked what does that mean? Steven walked into his art studio and placed a brush into his wine glass and began the first strokes of his art career.
"Colors of Wine, is a personal art journey and story. I explore the flavors of wine through it's complex pigmentation and concentration. The wine becomes as much of the story telling process as the subject and the artist. It is a passion for exploration and for living life, holding special memories and now a way to share them." Steven invites you enjoy his artwork with a splash of wine. See more of Steven's work here.

Steve Williams is a unique musician. Whether playing rock, soul, country or blues, his magic combination of smooth vocals and refined guitar skills will have you loving both his original music and his memorable adaptation of familiar classics. Maeve Croghan
Oil on Canvas

Maeve's work will be on exhibit in the Castoro Cellars Gallery during the months of March and April.
Read more about Maeve and see her work on her website here.
|
Expressionist nature painter Maeve Croghan has a unique interpretation of the traditional subject of nature painting. Maeve grew up living every summer on a remote island in Northern Michigan and it was here that she developed a deep reverence for the lakes, woods the surrounding lands and nature. Her love of the land, and now her connection to the magnificent beauty of California, is expressed through her energetic, color-filled paintings.
Maeve's oil paintings are begun outside as she observes the environment and finished in the studio from personal interpretation and memory.
The recipient of numerous juried awards, Maeve's paintings are shown and collected throughout the country. She recently participated in museum showings at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art in Alaska, as well as the Laguna Beach Museum of Art in California. Castoro Cellars in Templeton, CA, has chosen her work to grace their award-winning wine-bottle labels. Maeve's artwork has been chosen for bottles of Paso Robles 2002 Zinfandel Winemakers Collaborative Blend, Castoro Cellars Paso Robles 2000 Late Harvest Muscat, and Castoro Cellars Paso Robles 1999 Late Harvest Zinfandel.

Jayme Stone
SLOFolks Indoor Concert

TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE
All tickets are non-refundable.
|
Join us for a night of varied and innovative folk banjo with musician Jayme Stone. Jayme's music can best be described as "what the future of the banjo looks like." He has been called the "Yo-Yo Ma of the banjo," and according to country musician George Straight, Jayme's music is spirited and his talent large.
Jayme Stone's new album, Room of Wonders is based on folk dances from around the world: reels, rachenitsas, morescas and sambas from Norway, Sweden, Brazil, Bulgaria, Italy, Tunisia and North America. His third solo recording, following the international breakout success of Africa to Appalachia, features fiddle pioneer Casey Driessen, gravity-defying guitarist Grant Gordy, former Punch Brother Greg Garrison and special guests: Nick Fraser (drums), Kevin Trucotte (trumpet), William Carn (trombone) and Olov Johansson (nyckelharpa).
"Stone's scope is far-reaching, connecting seemingly disparate cultures with a passion for music that runs through bluegrass, jazz and the grit of roots music to West Africa."
Boston Globe
"Stone combines a jazz musician's sense of timing and sureness of touch with a pop musician's brevity and directness."
The Guardian

"Painting with Light"

|
Paul McCloskey attempts to portray his works with a painter's eye, capturing and communicating the beauty of nature as well as it's ambiance and spirit using natural light to help "paint" his pictures in camera.
Composition, color, texture and "atmosphere" are key elements to all of his images. "Being in nature brings a sense of wonder and inner joy that is sometimes difficult to communicate in words, but done so eloquently by environmentalists/writers such as Thoreau and Emerson, Muir and Abbey, to name but a few. I also have a deep respect and love for nature and hope these images inspire the same feelings in others. "

Fishtank Ensemble
SLOFolks Indoor Concert

Visit their website here.
Purchase tickets here or call 1.888.dam.fine

|
Formed in 2005, Fishtank Ensemble has played everywhere from the hippest LA clubs to festivals, cultural centers, museums, parades, and even on the street. This exciting band includes two explosive violins, the world's best slap bass player, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, trombone, opera, jazz and gypsy vocals, accordion and one little banjolele. Tackling everything from French hot jazz to wild Serbian and Transylvanian gypsy anthems, Flamenco, and oddball originals, their performance is a not to be missed event for world music lovers. The LA Weekly calls them "cross pollinated gypsy music….one of the most thrilling young acts on the planet."
The dynamic quartet takes its roots from their own varied musical and national backgrounds, as well as from their adventures and travels. The singer Ursula sang opera on the streets and town squares of Italy, until she found a love of gypsy music...their French violinist voyaged around all of Europe in a handmade mule-drawn caravan for ten years, collecting music and experiences. Their Serbian bass player has spent time playing with gypsies as well as some of the rock and roll's legends, and the guitarist is a master of flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar who honed his craft in the gypsy caves of Granada, Spain. Expect a wild time from this band, but it will never match their out of this world performance!!!

Current favorites include Peppino D' Agostino and Laurence Juber, who Martin opened for at Castoro Cellars. He also shared the billing with Karla Bonoff in a sold-out benefit concert for Escuela Del Rio at Castoro in 2010.
