For over fifteen years Jan has been welcoming customers to Castoro Cellars and in turn has become a Castoro icon. Customers from all over the country visit Castoro, and many of them look forward to having Jan walk them through the tasting menu year after year. Not only does she know the wines, she knows people and will always leave you with a memorable experience.
Having grown up and raised a family in San Marino, CA she decided it was time for a change in 1989 and moved to the Paso Robles area. In 1995 she began working at Castoro Cellars and the rest is history!
In her free time she enjoys visiting with her 9 grandchildren and spending time in the garden. She also loves animals, having five cats, a horse and a parrot named Chico! Jan lives on a golf course and insists Chico’s colorful language is a result of the golfers passing by, but this is still up for debate!
Ryan is a Paso Robles native and has worked in the wine industry for over 10 years. He started his career in wine in high school as a vineyard management intern, frequently working on Castoro’s vineyards, among others. He studied Biology at Sonoma State, but always wanted to end up in Paso. Ryan is a avid home brewer and makes his own wine as well. Ryan joins the Castoro team with over 10 years of Wine Club management experience.
She's a fifth generation California girl, born into a pioneer family, and like her 1880's ancestors, Carrie is always excited to expand her field of knowledge. Except for her retail experience as a teenager, Carrie's inclination was always in the field of science. She majored in biology at Cuesta College; she's treated furry friends working as a vet tech at an animal hospital; switching to the science of humans, she became a licensed phlebotomist, landing a job at the health center at Cal Poly SLO. Her pioneer spirit beckoned her to seek out a little fun on the weekends, so Carrie took a second job as a Cicerone-certified Beer Educator for Firestone Walker Brewery (yes, they pay you for that!). She was fascinated by the science behind brewing good beer, and it wasn't long before she made the move to go full-time at the brewery. She spent five years enjoying the many aspects of the craft beer industry: from the revelations behind tastings and pairings, to the many facets of retail operations management. It was a desire to learn about the wine and distilling that led Carrie's pioneer heart to Castoro Cellars. It has proven to be a great spot for this California girl.
Raised in Los Osos, Janet spent many afternoons riding horses in the dunes. After three years in Maine, Janet learned to survive the four seasons but couldn’t resist the calling of her sleepy coastal town. Eventually she moved out of the fog to Atascadero to start a family and successfully raised five beautiful children! After 18 years of running a day care center of her own and a bout with cancer, Janet poured herself a glass of wine! In the fall of 2006 she began working at Castoro Cellars and found balance in her life that took her back to the shelter of Morro Bay.
In her free time you will find Janet exploring Big Sur, kayaking, hiking and ripping down Highway 1 with the top down!
This year (2013) Greg will be celebrating his 10th year at Castoro Cellars and he wouldn’t change it for a thing! Prior to working at Castoro Greg spent 29 years in promotion with Columbia Records in L.A. and was lucky enough to work with Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, The Stones, Paul McCartney, Journey and Beaverstock 30th anniversary artist Dave Mason. Greg has been married to his lovely wife Marsha for over 28 years and enjoys his free time playing golf and pretending to play bass guitar for The Beatles.
This year will be Sherry’s tenth year at Castoro Cellars. Sherry is a California native and attended university in Northern California, and her job experience is quite varied. She was the Director of a medical clinic while teaching at a medical school for fifteen years. She has worked in cancer research, been a pastry chef, had her own pastry business, and worked as an elementary school teacher.
She is blessed with an amazing sense of smell and taste, which makes her passionate about turning people on to their own sense of taste, exploring the world of wine and having fun with it.
The light of her life is her son Ian. She loves to draw, paint, cook, bake, garden, fish, have people over for dinner parties, and always tries to be the last dancer standing at any party! Sherry is passionate about honesty, integrity and a job well done.
