 Joe Schwartz
Art Show Featuring
Joe Schwartz

Joe Schwartz, documentary photographer, was born in Brooklyn, New York in1913 and passed away, a local resident in Atascadero in 2013. The City of Atascadero’s Centennial celebration included and honored Joe Schwartz’s centennial year just one month prior to his death.

Joe’s black and white street photography depicts ordinary people, predominately children in interracial interactions, getting along. Joe’s mantra was, “We Can All Get Along,” thus the title of this exhibit.

One of the important aspects of his photography was that he focused on civil rights issues long before the active civil rights era. Joe had the compassion and concern, even as a young man, for the social issues of the time (1930s - 1940s in New York and 1950s - 1980s in California.) His camera lens was the means in which he expressed this concern for others and the injustices of society, as indicated by the title of his photo book for sale here, “Folk Photography, Poems I’ve Never Written.” His photographs were his poems to humanity.

He was a member of the legendary Photo League of New York where he was mentored by some of the great photographers of his time. He was also a Combat Photographer during WWII in Iwo Jima.

The newest Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall exhibits a selection of Joe’s works on their walls. His legacy will be shared with many.

Bear Market Riot is Power-Folk Americana from the California Central Coast. Nordby and Motil captivate audiences of all-ages with tight harmonies, catchy originals, and an arsenal of high-energy originally interpreted covers

The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men are a rootsy rock n’ roll band born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Maeve Croghan
Art Show Featuring
Maeve Croghan
Month of March and April 2018
Save Maeve Croghan 03/01/18 - 04/30/18 6
Free

For the month March and April our featured artist will be Maeve Croghan.  You may recognize her work from the label of our Late Harvest Zinfandel or the backdrop on the stage at Beaverstock!  We are proud to have her work return to the newest release of both our Late Harvest Zinfandel and Orange Muscat in addition to the walls of the Events Gallery. View more work on her website by clicking HERE.

Maeve Croghan paints luminescent, color-filled, nature inspired oil paintings en plein air. After painting directly from nature, she slowly builds the works up in her studio, painting layers of oil paint on in the traditional old master method. During this stage of her process, she draws from her memory and feeling, not using photo references.

Maeve’s paintings are shown nationally and internationally. She has had numerous Museum showings of her work including the Manoogian Art Museum on Mackinac Island, Michigan, the Museum of the Living Artist, San Diego, Ca., the Anchorage Museum of Art, Alaska, Laguna Beach Museum and the Los Gatos Museum, California, Coos Bay, Oregon and Farmington, New Mexico, Museums. Her paintings have been chosen for shows in two museum exhibitions in Japan - the Matsumoto Museum in Matsumoto, and the Salt Road Museum in Omachi, Japan.

Maeve’s paintings are in prominent collections all over the United States and Europe.  They have been included in numerous juried art publications and books, including the ‘American Art Collector’, and ‘Artists of Northern California’. Castoro Cellars of Templeton, California uses her paintings to grace their award winning wine bottle labels.

Keith Lenaburg

Keith Lenaburg
Month of May and June

This show, titled "First Wave of Consciousness" showcases Keith's talent in creating beautiful pieces of abstract art by using different pouring techniques and then applying nature's forces to them. Some pieces are spun or tilted to create the desired effect, while others are created solely by gravity and the interaction between paints of different densities. Some pieces are created almost instantaneously, while others take hours or even days to come to final form. In many pieces, Keith uses metallic paint, which gives the piece depth and makes colors look different depending on how the light hits them.

Keith Lenaburg is a contemporary fine artist who lives and works in Santa Barbara, CA. He discovered early on that creating art is an essential part of his happiness, and chose to follow his passion by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from The University of California, Santa Barbara.

Lenaburg excels in a variety of media including fluid art, reverse glass paintings, and colored pencils. He uses vibrant colors and layers to create artwork that is both appealing and visually engaging, and is open to interpretation by the viewer. He finds fulfillment in creating special, unique pieces of art that inspire joy.

In addition, Lenaburg developed a technique that transforms ordinary photos into a work of art, using acrylic paint to create the reverse image on the back side of the glass and incorporating a paper inlay to give the piece added dimension. The resulting monochromatic piece looks like a photograph from far away, but as the viewer steps closer, it becomes clear that the image is formed from smaller abstract shapes.

Finally, Lenaburg specializes in colored pencil drawings. These pieces showcase his meticulous attention to detail. He uses vibrant colors, many layers, and expert blending to achieve photorealistic results.
